Star duo race at Albion Park
Dual Horse of Year Avonnova and Destreos will go head-to-head in what looks to be an enthralling encounter at Albion Park on Saturday night.
The star duo head a solid free-for-all field with Avonnano faring better in the draw, after landing barrier two.
Prematurely retired last December, Avonnova returned with a stylish first-up victory three weeks ago, with trainer Ian Gurney stating the free-legged son of Art Major will be a massive improver this weekend.
"The break he had while retired has done him the world of good," Gurney said. "He has come back in terrific shape and his work has been enormous.
"I couldn't be happier with the way he feels and he will be even better on Saturday night. He's going to be very hard to beat."
Also fresh from a victory a fortnight ago, Destreos is the sole runner along the back row.
The Kent Rattray-trained veteran is renowned for his Australasian record of 426 starts, which has netted 93 wins and 131 placings for earnings of $764,995.
"Destreos is just a true tradesman, which gets out there and does his job," Gurney said. "The draw hasn't made it easy for him, but if we cop a bit of pressure up front, he will be coming home hard."
