Trainer Adam Trinder believes Mystic Journey could be ready to fill the shoes of super mare Winx when she retires.
He was speaking after his filly won Saturday's $5million All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington.
Mystic Journey, who cost just $11,000 as a yearling, powered home to beat the Godolphin pair Hartnell and Alizee, and some have now suggested Tasmania may have produced the next Winx.
Winx is up there on a mantle of her own but if she is to retire this year, this filly might be the one to take over.Adam Trinder
Trinder said the daughter of Needs Further would not press on to the Sydney carnival to take on Winx next week and will now be spelled before preparing for the Cox Plate where Mystic Journey is 7/2 on a win and each way bet with Arcadia Queen 10/1.
However he does believe Mystic Star can become a superstar of Australian Racing.
"We hold her in such high regard and it's humbling that some external opinion is the same," Trinder said. "Winx is up there on a mantle of her own but if she is to retire this year, this filly might be the one to take over.
"We bought her as a cheap filly to come out and do a job for us but the job she's done has been unbelievable."
Meanwhile, Godolphin trainer James Cummings was proud of the efforts of Hartnell and Alizee, who both chased well in the straight but were no match for the three-year-old.
"They were set for the big race and they ran slashing placings, the pair of them," Cummings said. "Hartnell felt in fantastic order and he savaged the line.
"He was following a very capable horse at the top of the straight but he was just forced to switch back to the inside and unfortunately, he just didn't quite get the momentum.
"She (Alizee) ran fantastic. It was one of her best runs but she bumped into the best Tasmanian filly for 100 years."
Meanwhile Microphone is 15/2 to win the Golden Slipper next weekend with Tenley 5/1.
