Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is ignoring The Autumn Sun's barrier trials and says he will rise to the occasion when it matters as he prepares to return to action this weekend.
The Autumn Sun returns in the $400,000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, but there have been questions raised about the barrier trial performances in the lead up.
I'm no more or no less confident going into Saturday as I was last preparation.Kerrin McEvoy
In two barrier trials The Autumn Sun was beaten 5-1/4 and 3-1/4 lengths in his latest outing over 1000m at Rosehill on 12th February.
However, McEvoy has ridden the dual Group 1-winning colt in three of his five wins and four of his nine trials and says there is nothing to worry about.
"His trials were fine," McEvoy said. "He's never been a horse that produces blistering trials and this time his trials were no different to those in the past.
"The times they ran the trials in tell the story."
The Autumn Sun is 11/20 to win at Rosehill on Saturday with Bondi 8/1.
McEvoy believes the son of Redoute's Choice is in great shape and will bring his A game to the racetrack on Saturday.
"He's in as good nick as he can be going into Saturday," he added. "I'm no more or no less confident going into Saturday as I was last preparation.
"He's come back a little bit stronger, he's not that much taller but if anything he's a bit thicker. He's still got the same attitude and that's what you're going to see on Saturday. A racehorse with a great raceday attitude."
Meanwhile, Mystic Journey is 3/1 on a win and each way bet to win the Australian Guineas next month with The Inevitable at 12/1.
