Ricciardo eyes Hamilton link-up

Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that he would relish the chance to partner Lewis Hamilton at some point in his Formula 1 career.

The 28-year-old Australian is preparing for the 2018 campaign with Red Bull, where he has been a driver since replacing Mark Webber in 2014.

Ricciardo finished third in the drivers' championship in his debut season and picked up more points than his four-time world champion team-mate Sebastian Vettel that year before he departed for Ferrari.

I would like to go against Lewis at some point, irrespective of team situation. That would be fun.

He has gone on to win five races and secured 27 podium finishes at Red Bull, but has made no secret of his desire to challenge for a world title.

Ricciardo is entering his final year of his contract at Red Bull and, while he enjoys working alongside the impressive Max Verstappen, he suggested that a move to work with reigning champion Hamilton at top constructors Mercedes would appeal.

He told RACER: "People will probably call me a liar for this but I would like a fast team-mate.

"For two reasons: It’s always going to get more out of yourself, and it's going to be more of a true evaluation of how good you are and where you stand.

"I'm in this sport, yes to win, but to win by being the best, not getting lucky or whatever.

"If I win a title I want to know that I was the best guy that year.

"To be the best you have to go against the best and I've certainly got a very good one alongside me in Max.

"I would like to go against Lewis at some point, irrespective of team situation. That would be fun."

Ricciardo is 4000/1 to win the F1 drivers championship in 2018, while Hamilton is priced at 1/500 and former team-mate Vettel is available at 50/1.
