Winning matters the most for Rose

Justin Rose is determined to maintain his focus on trying to win a second US Open title and not on the possibility of moving to the top of the world rankings.

The Englishman is currently third in the standings, behind Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas, but could go top of the tree if results go his way at Shinnecock Hills this week.

I'm in the great position where world ranking, becoming World No.1, is going to be a by-product of winning this week.

However, the 2013 US Open champions says he is not too concerned about the potential ranking prize and will have his eyes firmly on trying to add a second Major title to his record.

He told reporters: "I'm in the great position where world ranking, becoming World No.1, is going to be a by-product of winning this week. So I may as well just continue to focus on the winning.

"I couldn't think of a better scenario than to win a Major, to win a golf tournament and to become World No.1.

"It's nicer to keep focus on the winning. It keeps things cleaner mentally and it keeps things simple.

"All I'm focusing on is, for me, winning Major championships, which has been my dream as a kid. World No.1 is a really cool thing to say at some point in your career, but it's not my primary focus."

Rose has been paired with Louis Oosthuizen and Jimmy Walker for the first two rounds of the US Open and is 23/20 to win their 1st round threeball, while he is 1/5 to be Top Englishman and 8/13 to be Top European.
