Casey relishes Augusta challenge

Paul Casey is excited about his prospects of making a challenge at the upcoming Masters at Augusta, having claimed a one-shot victory at the Valspar Championship.

The Englishman edged out Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed in a tense finish at Palm Harbor, with Casey shooting a final round 65 to secure only the second PGA Tour win of his career to date.

I'm playing very free golf, very relaxed and at peace with whatever happens on the golf course.

And he was thrilled with his efforts, especially with the first Major of 2018 just around the corner.

He told reporters: "I'm excited and not only for my game, but the fact that Tiger's playing great.

"I'm a fan of golf and to pip him is very special. He'll be on top form when we get there (Augusta) and I'm looking forward to it. I think I've got a good chance."

Casey, who has finished inside the top six at the Masters in each of the last three years, is 22/1 to triumph at Augusta this year, with Woods 12/1 and Jordan Spieth 10/1.

And he is happy to keep playing with a free spirit which has seen climb back up the world rankings and put himself firmly in contention for a Ryder Cup spot.

He added: "Very satisfying (win). Probably more satisfying the fact that it was on a week where Tiger played some good golf and got to see some amazing stuff and hear the roars and it just was a great week, the buzz, everything about it.

"There has been a lot of pressure and it's got to the point where it's gone the other way, where actually I'm playing very free golf, very relaxed and at peace with whatever happens on the golf course."
