Tyrrell Hatton has the mentality needed to achieve great things in the game, that is the view of Europe Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn.

Twenty-five-year-old Englishman Hatton made an impressive defence of his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title at the weekend, holding off a superb charge by compatriot Ross Fisher to secure a three-shot victory.

You want young players that want to get out there and be the best they can be.

And his approach to game has caught the eye of Bjorn, who is already looking at his options for the clash with the United States at Le Golf National in Paris in September next year.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: "He's a wonderful player and he's got a great attitude towards the game.

"He's aggressive in his mind, he wants to achieve things and sometimes that might come across like people think he's too aggressive, but that's what you want from your players.

"You want young players that want to get out there and be the best they can be. Performances like his at the weekend are very special and for the very few.

"He really has risen and become a player that has a very good chance of not just being there (at the Ryder Cup) in 12 months, but in general has a good chance of achieving great things."

Hatton is quickly back in action this week as he tees off at the Italian Open in Milan, where home favourite Francesco Molinari is the defending champion.

Hatton is available at 16/1 to win the tournament, while he is 10/3 to finish in the top five and 15/2 to be the best GB & Ireland finisher.
