Toure knows why he's out

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Yaya Toure knows the reason he hasn't featured to so far this season but he says it will remain between him and his player.

Toure signed a one-year contract at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, but is yet to feature for the first team this season and is not in the squad for their opening Champions League game against Feyenoord on Wednesday.

Guardiola hailed the 34-year-old as a 'special player' but he said the former Barcelona man knows why he isn't being picked.

I spoke with him, he knows the reason why. But it's between me and him.

Toure has experienced an up and down relationship with Guardiola since the Spaniard took charge at the start of last season.

Guardiola respects the former Ivory Coast international and hasn't ruled out a return to first team action.

"I spoke with him, he knows the reason why. But it's between me and him," Guardiola told a pre-match press conference.

"It's just a sporting decision. Yaya was so important last season. Six players finished contracts last season, the only one who stayed is Yaya, because he is a special player.

"But the decision why he hasn't played this season and is not in the squad - he knows the reason why."

Asked if Toure will return to the squad in the near future, Guardiola added: "Hopefully, it depends on him.

"All of them (City's players) are happy but I demand as much as possible, I always want more, not just from Yaya, but from them all."

Man City are 15/2 to beat Feyenoord 3-0 on Wednesday while they are 3/10 to win the game.

Feyenoord can be backed at 10/1 to win.
