Missed chances frustrate Mourinho

Jose Mourinho rued a plethora of wasted opportunities as Manchester United lost their latest Champions League game 1-0 to Basel.

Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini and Marcos Rojo all missed presentable openings before the Swiss side grabbed a late winner through Michael Lang.

Despite the loss United are almost certain of being involved in the last-16 as they need just one point to qualify for the knockout phase of the competition as Group A winners.

"We lost because we should have been 5-0 up at half-time and could not score after being so dominant," said a frustrated Mourinho afterwards.

"We were in an easy way for many periods - it looked almost impossible not to win.

"But experience tells you that when you miss so many chances you put yourself in this position. In the second half, maybe we think the position at 0-0 was okay, but then they score the last minute.

"We must blame everyone on the pitch. We missed so many chances and put ourselves in this position. It's always risky when you waste chances."

United, 20/1 to win the Champions League outright this season, can be backed at 11/2 to beat Brighton 3-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday with Lukaku 9/4 to be the first goal scorer.
