Bonucci targets Milan improvement

Leonardo Bonucci admits AC Milan have work to do ahead of Thursday's Europa League visit of Rijeka.

The Rossoneri were back in the headlines over the summer, signing a number of star names but are still to truly gel.

So many new arrivals has led to plenty of tinkering from Vincenzo Montella, with the coach yet to settle on his preferred formation, let alone his first choice starting XI.

Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Sampdoria ended a run of three straight wins and Bonucci admits it has sparked a few days of soul searching at the San Siro.

Milan must be Milan and overcome obstacles.

The Italian international was arguably the headline arrival in the summer but is still to find the form he demonstrated while at Juventus.

Thursday sees Montella's men take on Rijeka in the Europa League and they will be desperate for a win against the Croatians, as they aim to build momentum going into Sunday's game with Roma.

Milan are 1/1 to triumph, with the draw 1/1 and Matjaz Kek's men priced at 1/1.

Teething problems were always expected for such a new side but Bonucci himself admits they are still falling short of expectations.

However, he insists they cannot dwell, otherwise they risk jeopardising their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

"The past 72 hours have been very intense, but you have to expect this when you're wearing such an important shirt," he said. "What happened in Genoa is not how we wanted it to go obviously.

"Milan must be Milan and overcome obstacles. There is no time to look back and we have to bring Milan into Champions League and fight for the top positions in Serie A."

Milan are 12121/1 to win Serie A, while a top four finish can be found at 1000/1.
