Winger Ivan Perisic is determined to focus on bringing success to the club after agreeing a new five-year contract with Italian giants Inter Milan.

The 28-year-old Croatia international was heavily linked with a big-money move to Manchester United this summer, but has now committed his long-term future to the Nerazzurri.

It's a special day, it's certainly emotional and I'm happy after the stress of this summer.

And Perisic revealed that he was never too close to agreeing a move to Old Trafford, having spoken to new Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti prior to the new season getting under way.

He told the club's official website: "It's a special day, it's certainly emotional and I'm happy after the stress of this summer. Now we can look forward and I'm only thinking about Inter.

"After signing, the pitch is the only thing left for me to think about.

"For a long time I didn't give quotes, I can now say that I had already spoken with (coach) Spalletti in pre-season and he told me that I can be an even better player with him."

Perisic joined Inter in the summer of 2015, having previously enjoyed success in Germany with both Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

He has helped Inter start the new Serie A campaign with two wins out of two, defeating Fiorentina 3-0 at the San Siro before claiming a 3-1 victory at Roma.

Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi has scored twice in both of those games and is 5/2 to be the leading scorer in Serie A this season.

Juventus ace Gonzalo Higuain can be backed at 8/1 and his team-mate Paulo Dybala is available at 4/1.

Next up for Inter is a meeting with newly-promoted SPAL, who have taken four points from their opening two games back in the Italian top-flight.
