Icardi cool over Scudetto talk

Inter Milan's star striker Mauro Icardi has played down talk of his team being genuine contenders for Lo Scudetto this season.

The Argentina international was the star of the show on Sunday evening as the Nerazzurri defeated city rivals AC Milan 3-2 in the San Siro, with Icardi completing a hat-trick with a late, decisive penalty.

It's too early to talk about a Scudetto challenge.

However, he was cautious about Inter's title hopes afterwards, with his side second in Serie A, two points behind leaders Napoli, who they visit next weekend.

He told the Italian media: "It's too early to talk about a Scudetto challenge.

"We are doing things the right way from pre-season and now we have to think about the next match against a great opponent like Napoli."

Inter are currently priced at 12121/1 to be crowned Italian champions, with Napoli available at 50/1 and reigning champions Juventus 1/10000.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri winger Ivan Perisic also refused to look too far into the future, as he told the club's official website: "We are on the right track and must continue like this, trying to do even better.

"You can already tell we play better football than last season, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

"It'll also be an important advantage that we can rest midweek without European commitments. We hope to do well at Napoli, they are the best side in Italy at the moment."

Naploi have won all eight games they have played in Serie A so far this season, scoring 26 goals and conceding just five.

Inter have only dropped two points to date, doing so just over a month ago when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Bologna.
