Xavi predicts Guardiola interest

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has admitted he would not be surprised if Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made a move for Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere if he was available in the summer.

England international Wilshere has found himself down the pecking order at the Emirates under manager Arsene Wenger and is currently on a loan deal with Bournemouth until the end of the season.

Having impressed Guardiola when the Gunners met Barcelona in the Champions League in 2011, Guardiola has been an admirer of Wilshere ever since.

Xavi, who also faced Wilshere that day, believes the now Man City boss will be keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old’s status at Arsenal this summer.

He told Fox Latin America: "I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere - he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011.

"He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since. We have talked about him, it was not a performance you forget easily.

"Technically he is the sort of player that Pep loves - his only problem has been injuries - and if it wasn't for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world."

Man City are 4500/1 to win the Premier League this season, while Guardiola's men are 1212/1 to secure the Champions League title this term.
