Wenger hails Arsenal spirit

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the spirit shown by his side as they twice came from behind against Chelsea to win an extraordinary game at Stamford Bridge.

Robin van Persie put on another stunning display.

Robin van Persie led from the front with a hat-trick in the 5-3 victory as the Gunners recorded their eighth win in nine games, and they are now 1/33 to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Gervinho and Theo Walcott also found the net for Arsenal, with Frank Lampard, John Terry and Juan Mata scoring for Chelsea in a pulsating encounter.

"We needed a win here and we kept going to win the game," said Wenger.

"I felt that we had a good team performance and great spirit because when we went 2-1 down just on half-time it's very difficult.

I hope the team can strengthen its belief with a performance like that.

"But we started the second half with a complete desire to keep going forward, and defensively we were much better in the second half than the first.

"I hope the team can strengthen its belief with a performance like that and we can continue to focus and get stronger and stronger."

Arsenal have little time to bask in the victory with a midweek Champions League game against Marseille to prepare for. They are 14/1 to beat the French side 3-0 on Tuesday, while a goalless draw can be backed at 10/1.
