Andrew Surman wants to help Bournemouth finish higher than 12th in the Premier League next season after signing a new deal.

The 31-year-old is in a third spell with the Cherries having initially joined on loan from Southampton for the 2005-06 season and then again from Norwich in 2013-14 before signing permanently that summer.

From a personal point of view, I want to help the club finish higher than we did last season.

Surman has remained a mainstay in boss Eddie Howe's plans since the side won promotion to the Premier League in 2015 and scored two goals in 25 top-flight appearances last term.

And, after penning a deal to keep him at the Vitality Stadium until summer 2020, Surman has set his sights on making more progress next term.

"I'm really pleased to sign," Surman said in a statement released by the club.

"I love playing for this club and I have loved my time here so far.

"It has been a great time to have been part of the club, so to extend my time further is a great achievement.

"From a personal point of view, I want to help the club finish higher than we did last season."

Bournemouth, who are 13/8 to finish in the top half of the league, begin the new campaign at home to newly-promoted Cardiff on 11th August and are 17/20 to win, the Bluebirds are priced at 15/4 and the draw is 13/5.
