The future of Gylfi Sigurdsson at Swansea City remains uncertain after he was withdrawn from their pre-season tour of the United States.

Everton are reported to be pressing hard to secure the signature of the talented 27-year-old Iceland international midfielder, who featured as the Swans were beaten 1-0 by Barnet on Wednesday evening,

I've made it very clear I want him to stay here.

And their hopes will have been raised by the news that came out of the Welsh club after that game, with a short statement confirming: "Swansea City can confirm that Gylfi Sigurdsson will not travel with the squad to America for the pre-season tour.

"Having played against Barnet last night, Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel this morning due to the current uncertainty over his future."

And City head coach Paul Clement also admitted that he is unsure whether Sigurdsson will still be a Swans player come the start of the new season.

He added: "I've made it very clear I want him to stay here. The fans want that, the owners would like that but, ultimately, there's a business side to football as well.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork, there was no thought of moving Jack on, but it got to a point when another club (Burnley) came in with a really good offer.

"That might end up being the case with Gylfi. We don't know yet."

Sigurdsson is currently in his second spell with Swansea and has scored 34 goals in 124 Premier League appearances for the club in total.

Swansea are 4/9 to be relegated next season, with Burnley available at 20/1 and Crystal Palace 4/5.
