Pardew fears Evans departure

Manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he is worried that West Brom captain Jonny Evans could be tempted to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Northern Ireland international centre-back Evans was linked with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the summer, before a deal failed to materialise.

Do I want to lose him? Of course not. Do I fear losing him? Of course I do.

However, with the next transfer window a matter of weeks away, speculation about the future of former Manchester United defender Evans has started doing the rounds once again.

And Pardew accepts that there is little he can do about that situation, apart from focusing on the task in hand of moving clear of relegation danger.

He told reporters ahead of a crucial trip to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City on Saturday: "I'm never confident when you've got great players, because other clubs want great players, so your best players are always vulnerable.

"Jonny is definitely one of them and he is our captain. Do I want to lose him? Of course not. Do I fear losing him? Of course I do.

"There was interest in him in the summer so it makes sense to stir it up, they are good headlines for the media. I understand that, we deal with it and Jonny has dealt with it in his own way.

"I can only go on his performance and he was outstanding against Crystal Palace and now we go to Swansea."

Albion have gone 13 Premier League games without a win since taking a maximum six points from their opening two games of the campaign.

They are available at 2/1 to win at Swansea and are 6/1 to claim a 1-0 victory, with the Baggies 12121/1 not to be relegated come the end of the season.
