Mane: Reds blip is over

Sadio Mane believes Liverpool's weekend win over Tottenham has lifted the cloud that was hanging over the club in recent weeks.

Mane scored both goals at Anfield on Saturday as Jurgen Klopp's side earned their first Premier League victory of 2017.

It keeps the Merseysiders in the hunt for a top-four finish, as they now sit fifth on 49 points just one point behind third-placed Spurs and Arsenal in fourth.

The motivation is there to keep improving and get whatever we can from the rest of the season.

Manchester City are on 52 points meanwhile, two clear of the north London duo while Manchester United sit directly behind Liverpool on 48 points.

Mane missed most of Liverpool's January slump due to his involvement at the African Cup of Nations but the former Southampton player now believes they have turned a corner after beating Spurs.

"It's too early to speak about what's going to happen but the confidence is back in this team now," said the 24-year-old.

"We have a team with great qualities. What happened has happened.

"We can't change that but the motivation is there to keep improving and get whatever we can from the rest of the season.

"Those kind of moments can happen in a season. We had three or four difficult weeks but we are out of that now. We had to produce a reaction and we did that."

Liverpool are 1/10 to finish in the top four this season. Manchester United are 1000/1 while Arsenal are 6/1 to maintain their record of Champions League qualification under boss Arsene Wenger.

Mane says it is important that Liverpool make the best of what remains in this season.

"We have to take it game by game and try to win every game between now and the end of the season. We have time to rest and time to train so we need to use that," he added.

The Reds are 4/6 to win their next game away at struggling champions Leicester City on 27th February.
