De Boer lands loanee Fosu-Mensah
Crystal Palace head coach Frank de Boer is looking forward to having versatile loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah among his options this season.
The 19-year-old, who can play in either defence or midfield has joined the Eagles on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, where he has made 21 first-team appearances to date.
I am seeing him in our system as a right centre-back, but he can also play full-back in a 4-3-3.Frank de Boer
And De Boer, who has previously worked with Fosu-Mensah when he was in the youth ranks at Ajax, is pleased to have landed the Netherlands Under-21 international to boost his options.
He told the club's official website: "Timothy is a player who has great pace and incredible physical ability. In today's game you need players with strength and speed and he is a player who can also play in midfield.
"I am seeing him in our system as a right centre-back, but he can also play full-back in a 4-3-3."
Meanwhile, Fosu-Mensah himself is relishing a chance to prove his worth, having made just a solitary Premier League start for United last season.
He added: "The manager spoke to me and it was clear that he wanted me to be part of his squad, which as a player gives you a great feeling straight away.
"I am only 19 years old and still have a lot to learn and, therefore, getting the opportunity to play more games on a regular basis will help my development."
Palace start the new league season on Saturday at home to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town.
The Eagles are 5/6 to secure victory against the Terriers and are 8/1 to win the game 2-0, with Christian Benteke available at 7/2 to score the first goal of the game.
