Dalot handed Mourinho backing

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has backed new signing Diogo Dalot to prove to be a big hit at Old Trafford following his arrival from FC Porto.

The 19-year-old right-back has joined the Red Devils on a five-year contract, having only made his first-team debut for Porto during the season just ended, while he has also won a handful of caps for the Portugal Under-21s side.

We all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.

And Mourinho believes his club have managed to secure the services of one of the top defensive prospects in European football.

He told his club's official website: "Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club.

"He has all the attributes that a full-back needs - physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.

"In his age group he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United."

Meanwhile, Dalot himself is excited about the challenge of making his mark with the Premier League giants, adding: "Joining Manchester United is an unbelievable opportunity for me.

"I have grown up in Porto's Academy and I am so thankful for everything they have done for me, but the chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn't turn down."

United can be backed at 7/1 to be crowned Premier League champions next season, while they are 2/7 to finish in the top four.
