Clement holds Sigurdsson hope

Swansea City boss Paul Clement says he is planning for star man Gylfi Sigurdsson to remain at the club this summer as they prepare for next season.

The Icelandic international has been at the heart of plenty of transfer speculation already this summer, having been a key figure in helping the Swans avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.

I am planning for him to be here, but there is clearly some very strong interest in him.

Both Everton, who have already splashed the cash this window, and Leicester City have been credited with a strong interest.

Reports have even suggested bids in the region of £40m have been turned down for the 27-year-old and that Swansea will only listen to offers of £50m and above.

However Clement is determined to keep hold of his star midfielder and is planning to have the playmaker at his disposal next season.

He told the club's official website: "He is training hard and straightaway he is at the top of all the statistics physically.

"I am planning for him to be here, but there is clearly some very strong interest in him. We will have to see what happens."

Clement added: "He has three years on his contract and if any business is going to be done, it will be done on the terms we want.

"The club recognised his contribution by giving him an extended contract last season. He was happy to stay on here. At the moment he is a Swansea player and we have to carry on looking at it that way."

Swansea are 18/1 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table and 8/13 to be relegated next season.
