West Ham boss Slaven Bilic says that no player is bigger than the club but he will fight to keep hold of Manuel Lanzini.

The Argentinian will miss West Ham's season opener, away to Manchester United on Sunday with a knee injury.

We are looking after him, that he is happy.

However, he has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent weeks with Liverpool mooted as a possible destination, especially if they sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

Lanzini is on a long-term contract at the London Stadium and Bilic says he wants to keep him with the club if possible.

At a press conference ahead of the game at Old Trafford, Bilic said: "With Manuel, no player is bigger than the club in any way, I am not talking about contracts, I am just talking about that he is just one player.

"But he is one of our key players definitely. He is a great lad and he knows his situation.

"I spoke with him last season a few times and at the end of the season, then also at the beginning of the pre-season. We are looking after him, that he is happy."

Lanzini may not be available to Bilic on Sunday but the West Ham boss will have some new signings in his line-up with Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez all likely to be involved.

West Ham are 11/1 to cause a shock with Jose Mourinho's side 3/10 and the draw priced at 19/4.

United have new signings of their own, notably Romelu Lukaku and the former Everton striker is 8/11 to score on his United debut.

Bilic said it will be a challenge to face United in their first game back.

"It's not ideal playing there first game of the season, but on the other hand, it is brilliant and one of the greatest away games in the league," he added.

"They have improved the squad with quality and big transfers, so we will have to be on top of our game.

"We are missing players, it could be better for us but then, of course we are positive."
