Bilic targeting quality recruits

West Ham head coach Slaven Bilic is looking for quality in the transfer market this summer and is not interested in just adding numbers to his squad.

The Hammers have been linked with moves for the likes of Jermain Defoe and Pablo Zabaleta and, although Bilic has refused to name any specific targets, he is clear that he wants players who can add something to his starting XI.

I won't talk about names now, but hopefully we will be successful in getting the names we want.

He told reporters ahead of a Sunday trip to Burnley on the final weekend of the Premier League season: "We don't need squad players. Squad-wise we are okay, we are good. We would like to improve the quality in certain positions.

"I won't talk about names now, but hopefully we will be successful in getting the names we want.

"If we stay out of injuries and if we improve our squad, then we settle down in the new stadium, I expect us to benefit a lot from this season."

The Irons lie in 12th place in the standings with one game to play and could still sneak into the top half of the table if results go their way.

They can be backed at 9/4 to earn a victory on Sunday and are 11/1 to win the battle of the Clarets by a 2-1 scoreline, with Manuel Lanzini 13/5 to score at any time in the game.

Meanwhile, Bilic is confident that defender Winston Reid will be fit for the start of next season, having been forced to undergo surgery on a knee problem.

He added of the New Zealand international: "He's good. He's going to be out for ten weeks, but he'll be ready for the start of the new season.

"He played with pain in the last few games, then we decided to do the operation after the Liverpool game."
