Wenger pins hope on final pedigree

Arsene Wenger hopes that Arsenal's excellent recent pedigree in cup finals can help them overcome Manchester City in Sunday's Carabao Cup decider at Wembley.

The Gunners have appeared in a cup final in each of their last four seasons, while last season they edged out Man City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Pep Guardiola's side are runaway leaders in the Premier League, but Wenger suggests Arsenal must try to look beyond that.

Wenger will be hope to avoid a repeat of the defeat to Birmingham City in the 2011 final and secure a maiden League Cup success in his 21st year in charge of the Gunners.

What it means is that you have enough belief to think you can do it.

"When you come through such a long way, you go to the final, you don't want to lose it," Wenger said.

"You want to win it. At the end of the day, you have to be cool. Because Manchester City is dominating the league in the head of everybody and so maybe we are more underdogs than in the FA Cup semi-final (last season)."

Arsenal are 19/4 to win the Carabao Cup Final in 90 minutes. Manchester City are 4/7, while the draw is priced at 18/5.

Wenger suggests that playing in finals is something that should come easier with experience.

"What it means is that you have enough belief to think you can do it," he said when asked what experience of finals counts for.

"That on the day you managed to turn up with the right spirit and right mentality, the right belief.

"The final, everyone says you have to be motivated, but as well to find the right balance between focus, motivation and relaxed enough to play your game."

Arsenal are 16/1 to win the Carabao Cup on penalties.
