Sigurdsson sees positive signs

Gylfi Sigurdsson says he is confident that Everton will soon turn round their poor form having seen positive signs already.

The Toffees record signing has failed to make an impact so far at Goodison Park as the team have struggled in both the Premier League and the Europa League.

It is just those fine margins. We have to take our chances when we get them and it will be a different game.

They have slumped into the bottom three in the league and were beaten 3-0 by Atalanta in Europe to put question marks over manager Ronald Koeman's future.

They embark on their EFL Cup campaign on Wednesday night with a game at home to Sunderland, a chance to get a win and some much-needed momentum.

However, Sigurdsson says that he has already seen positive signs in recent weeks despite the string of poor results.

He told the club's official website after their recent defeat, away to Manchester United: "I think we performed better up to United's second goal.

"We had a couple of chances but I think towards the end, they got their best chances after our mistakes.

"It is just those fine margins. We have to take our chances when we get them and it will be a different game.

"Even though we conceded four goals I think we were more solid as a team and harder to break down. But we are going to have to improve for the next few games."

Though the match against Sunderland assumes greater importance as a result of Everton's poor league form, Koeman may still rest some of his first choice players for the game.

So, Jordan Pickford may not start in goal against his old side while the likes of Nikola Vlasic, Kevin Mirallas and Martin Stekelenburg are likely to be involved.

Everton are 1/2 to win on Wednesday night with the Black Cats priced at 13/2. Sigurdsson is priced at 7/4 to score at any time during the game.

Everton are 1212/1 to win the EFL Cup this season.
