Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare has insisted that his side are in the EFL Cup "to win it" after defeating Liverpool on Tuesday.

The Foxes were under the cosh during the first half of the third-round tie at the King Power Stadium with Jurgen Klopp's men dominating throughout.

Winning breeds confidence and it's a happy dressing room. If you're in a cup, you're in it to win it. Hopefully it's a kick-start.

However, the Merseysiders were made to pay for their profligacy in the second half when goals from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani sealed the win for the hosts.

The three-time winners will now go into the hat for the last-16 draw on Wednesday and, despite the Premier League being the main priority, Shakespeare is looking for a good run in the competition.

"We know we led a charmed life in the first half. Our goal was under threat," he said.

Shakespeare added: "We spoke at half-time about being more aggressive, having options on the ball and hitting our strikers quicker. It was a good response.

"Winning breeds confidence and it's a happy dressing room. If you're in a cup, you're in it to win it. Hopefully it's a kick-start."

Leicester are now 14/1 to win the EFL Cup for the first time since 2000, while they are priced at 10/3 to defeat Liverpool again on home soil in the Premier League on Saturday.
