Seedorf targets Depor survival

Clarence Seedorf is confident he can help Deportivo La Coruna escape the threat of relegation, having been confirmed as the new head coach at the Riazor.

The 41-year-old Dutchman takes charge of a Depor outfit who have failed to win any of their last seven La Liga games and who have fallen into the bottom three as a result.

I am confident we will improve our results quickly.

That poor form cost Cristobal Parralo his job, but former Real Madrid midfielder Seedorf believes that there are still plenty of reasons to be positive for the challenge that lies ahead.

He told reporters: "I like challenges and we have targets to reach this season.

"This is an attractive job, a great club with many high-quality players and I am confident we will improve our results quickly.

"This is a squad which has many qualities and I am convinced many of these players can achieve better results - technically and tactically we are good.

"Of course this is a difficult situation, but the group needs a lift and we want Real Betis to face an unrecognisable team on Monday in our first match.

"Everybody here is desperate to emerge from this situation and I think the main challenge is psychological rather than in terms of skill."

Depor are currently priced at 1/4 to be relegated this season, with Alaves available at 16/1 and Levante 1/1.
