Real Madrid have been given a boost with the news wing-back Marcelo has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him stay at the club until the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

The Brazil international has been a mainstay for the La Liga giants since his arrival in 2006 and the 29-year-old has gone on to make over 400 appearances for the club.

Marcelo has now signed a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu which will come as good news for a side that have made a sluggish start to their La Liga campaign.

Real are in Champions League action on Wednesday night against APOEL but Los Blancos find themselves already off the pace domestically.

Two draws in their last two games means arch rivals Barcelona already have a four point advantage at this very early stage of the season.

Marcelo will be action against APOEL but will have to sit out the following two games against Real Sociedad and Real Betis in La Liga after picking up a red card against Levante.

Real are 8/5 to win the La Liga title this season, while Los Blancos are 4/1 to go all the way in the Champions League once again this term.
