Birmingham City manager Steve Cotterill anticipates that Jonathan Grounds will be out of action for some time after the left-back suffered an injury at the weekend.
Grounds injured his medial ligament during Saturday's 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday and will have a scan to discover the extent of the damage.
However, he will definitely miss Tuesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay against Huddersfield Town, a match the Blues are 13/2 to win 1-0.
"It's not too good," admitted Cotterill. "It's safe to say he won't be playing tomorrow night.
"We will have a bit more of an idea as to how long he is going to be out for when he has a scan. It's a blow to us because he has been great from the time I have come in.
"It was a disappointment to lose him on Saturday - hopefully he will be back and well soon."
There is some good news for City though as Jacques Maghoma could return to action on Sunday against Aston Villa, 11/10 to be promoted from the Championship this season.
The midfielder picked up a groin injury during the victory over Sunderland last week and missed the trip to Hillsborough.
"Mags is better," Cotterill added. "It's only early in the week, Monday, so we have got nearly another week, but he is better.
"It would be a bonus if Mags is available for that game, for the way he has been playing. He has been outstanding in a front three."
