Batshuayi impresses in Blues stroll
Michy Batshuayi scored a brace to win the approval of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as the Blues eased past Newcastle 3-0 in the FA Cup fourth round.
The home side were a bit slow into their stride at Stamford Bridge but they went in front on the half-hour when Batshuayi was on hand to sweep home at the end of a flowing passing move.
With the help of a deflection, Batshuayi doubled his and Chelsea's tally on the stroke of half time and all but ended Newcastle's resistance in doing so.
Marcos Alonso curled home a free-kick, his seventh goal of a productive season, midway through the second period as the Magpies ran out of puff.
With Alvaro Morata struggling for form recently, Conte was delighted to see Batshuayi boosting his own confidence with a brace.

"We are talking about a powerful player because he is strong physically, and for sure he has a lot of space for improvement," said the Chelsea boss.
"I don't know if it was his best game, but it was very important for the team and for him. For the striker to score is very important for confidence."
Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with a new striker during this month's transfer window but Conte insists he has no idea if there will be a new face arriving between now and Wednesday's deadline, while he also says Batshuayi could still go out on loan if there is a late arrival.
"I don't know if we will be able to get another player, but if we do, it doesn't mean Michy has to go on loan. We have a lot of competition," said Conte.
"If the club decides to add another player, I don't know if Michy wants to stay or wants to go on loan. In this case it will be the player's decision, not my decision."
Chelsea are 4/11 to beat Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday. The Cherries are 9/1 with the draw 17/4.
