Aguero given Guardiola backing

Sergio Aguero has the full backing of Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola to fill the gap left by the enforced absence of recent signing Gabriel Jesus.

The Argentina striker has lost his starting spot to Brazilian teenager Jesus in recent games, with the latter responding with three goals in his last three games.

I don't have doubts about Sergio.

However, Jesus may miss the rest of the season after being forced to undergo surgery on the right foot he injured in the 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Monday evening.

That gives Aguero a chance to reassert his claims to be the leading striker at the club and Guardiola is confident that he will rise to the task, having scored more than 150 goals for the Citizens since joining in the summer of 2011.

Ahead of a tough FA Cup fifth round trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Guardiola told reporters: "It's not easy for the player who does not play. Sergio was more than professional.

"I don't have doubts about Sergio. He has to do what he has done since the beginning of his career - nothing more."

Aguero is available at 1/2 to score at any time against the Terriers and is 11/8 to score the first Citizens goal of the game, with the visitors 6/1 to win 2-0 in 90 minutes at the John Smith's Stadium.

Meanwhile, Guardiola also revealed that he is unsure whether Jesus will be able to play again this season.

He added: "Last night he had an operation, it was good, really good.

"The most important thing now is a good recovery and he is going back when he will be fit, I don't know if it will be the end of the season or next season."
