Warnock plays down good start

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock claims he is not getting carried away after his side thrashed Aston Villa 3-0 to make it two wins from two.

The Bluebirds are the early Championship pacesetters with six points on the board after a brace from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and a Junior Hoilett effort sealed a comfortable win against a Villa side which is heavily tipped to win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Villa boss Steve Bruce described the performance as "embarrassing", but he could not take anything away from Cardiff's performance as they gave the Villans backline, including John Terry, the runaround for the majority of the game.

The momentum is nice and it's good to get points in the early stages instead of playing catch-up, but every game is a difficult game. That's two out of the way and 44 to go.

Despite the good start, Warnock was quick to play down talk of a possible promotion push for the South Wales outfit this season.

He said: "I was delighted with the goals we scored and everybody played their part in front of a good crowd.

"I have a good bunch of players here, they're honest and work hard for me. I wouldn't want to play against the likes of [Kenneth] Zohore and I thought we saw vintage Hoilett.

"But we've not done anything yet, we've won two games of football. Just wait until 10 games have gone, we've got all the top sides coming up. I don't get carried away. Sometimes you guys (the press) get carried away but if you do that, you get kicked in the teeth.

"The momentum is nice and it's good to get points in the early stages instead of playing catch-up, but every game is a difficult game. That's two out of the way and 44 to go.

"For me it's exciting what we have in attack, but we are still in the early stages and now we have to prepare for Sheffield United on Tuesday."

Cardiff, who are 6/4 to win promotion this season, are 10/11 to make it three successive wins against Sheffield United on Tuesday, while the Blades are priced at 18/5 and the draw is 5/2.
