Muller urged to improve his tally

Bayern Munich's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has told Thomas Muller that he needs to improve his goalscoring record in 2017/18.

Muller failed to reach double figures in the Bundesliga last season and Rummenigge was disappointed with that statistic.

Bayern have failed to sign Sandro Wagner this summer while doubts remain about Robert Lewandowski's future at the Allianz Arena.

That means Muller needs to come up with the goods for Carlo Ancelotti's team, according to Rummenigge.

"He'll have to play a stronger season," he said of Muller. "The competition is also strong in his position. I wish him a strong season and a lot of goals."

Wagner had been linked with Bayern but has opted to pen a new contract with Hoffenheim.

The 29-year-old scored 11 goals in 31 Bundesliga games for Hoffenheim last season before starring for Germany at the recent Confederations Cup.

Wagner said: "I am happy that I could agree this deal to stay with TSG. I want to help us achieve even greater success in the future.

"We face a challenge with our first participation in an international competition [Hoffenheim qualified for the Champions League play-offs], which we will meet with great ambition."

Bayern are 12121/1 to win the Champions League in 2017/18, while Real Madrid can be backed at 4/6, Barcelona at 12121/1 and last season's semi-finalists Monaco at 12121/1.
