Dortmund extend Dembele suspension

Ousmane Dembele has been suspended by Borussia Dortmund "until further notice" after he missed training earlier in the week.

The 20-year-old France international failed to show up after the German Bundesliga club rejected a reported £90 million bid from Barcelona for his signature.

Dembele, who moved to Dortmund from Rennes on a five-year contract last summer and impressed with 10 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions last term, has been training alone since he did return to the club.

The player is keen to secure a switch to the Camp Nou, while Dortmund are keen to keep him at the Westfalenstadion.

But until the situation is resolved, Dortmund coach Peter Bosz, chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc decided during a meeting on Saturday to keep Dembele exiled from the first-team squad.

Dortmund are preparing for the new Bundesliga season, which gets under way with a trip to Wolfsburg on Saturday and officials don't want the rest of the squad affected by the saga.

"Our focus now is on preparation for the Bundesliga opening match in Wolfsburg [on 19 August]. Dembele, of course, has the opportunity to complete an individual training session outside the group,” Zorc said.

There could be more problems for the club in the coming days after star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also admitted that he would like to join Italian giants AC Milan.

Dortmund, who are 4500/1 to win the Bundesliga this coming season, are 10/11 to win at Wolfsburg, while the hosts are priced at 13/5 and the draw is 14/5.
