Brisbane Roar have lost Avraam Papadopoulos for the rest of the season after he broke his ankle in training.
The Greece international defender played for the Roar in in Saturday's 1-0 win over Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium, but in training earlier this week he snapped his ankle.
We'll fully support him through this and we know he'll work hard in his recovery and be ready for next season.John Aloisi
The 33-year-old was hurt during a "non-competitive" drill, according to a club statement and he had surgery on Wednesday.
Papadopoulos has been one of the Roar's most reliable defenders this season, playing 15 times in the league.
His absence is a setback for John Aloisi's side in their late-season charge for a finals berth, particularly as the club's defensive stocks are already thin.
Luke DeVere is out for at least a month with a knee injury, and Jade North picked up a calf injury in the Adelaide game that will rule him out for their trip to runaway leaders Sydney FC on 17th March.
Daniel Bowles and Jacob Pepper are likely to start together in the heart of the Roar defence against the Sky Blues at Allianz Stadium.
Papadopoulos, who missed seven matches through suspension earlier in the season after being sent off for spitting in the direction of Sydney FC striker Matt Simon, will be sidelined for at least four months.
Aloisi said: "It's been a difficult time for Avraam. We'll fully support him through this and we know he'll work hard in his recovery and be ready for next season."
The Roar are 13/10 to finish in the A-League top six, with Perth Glory 1/1 and Western Sydney Wanderers 8/13.
