Eric Bautheac's first-half free-kick delivered the points to Brisbane Roar as they saw off Adelaide United 1-0 at Suncorp Stadium.

John Aloisi's men boosted their chances of snatching a Finals Series place with what was a fourth win in six outings.

It was an even contest in humid conditions and the Reds could have earned a point through Nikola Mileusnic's effort after the break.

Adelaide are now only four points clear of the Roar in fifth place, with the last two Finals Series spots still up for grabs.

United, who brought back Ersan Gulum from suspension to replace the banned Taylor Regan, gave up two chances to Massimo Maccarone in the first half.

The former Middlesbrough man volleyed wide from six yards out on 21 minutes after Fahid Ben Khalfallah's cross, and squandered another clear-cut chance on the half-hour mark.

The Roar did break the deadlock from a counter-attack with four minutes to go in the first half after Ben Khalfallah was fouled inside the D. Bauteac produced a superb free-kick to give keeper Paul Izzo no chance.

Adelaide created the best chance of the second half, nine minutes after the interval, when a quick counter-attack following a Brisbane corner saw midfielder Jordan O'Doherty tee up Mileusnic.

The youngster, freed for a one-on-one effort against Jamie Young, but couldn't take advantage as the keeper saved his tame effort.

Marco Kurz's side couldn't find an equaliser and suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since Round 6.

Meanwhile, Perth Glory take on Central Coast Mariners next weekend. Glory are 11/10 to win with the Mariners 9/4 and the draw priced at 13/5.

Glory are 10/1 to win the game 1-0.
