Jason Hoffman's early goal gave Newcastle Jets a 1-0 home win over struggling Brisbane Roar.
Ernie Merrick's side missed a raft of opportunities at McDonald Jones Stadium after Hoffman's 11th-minute strike.
Keeper Jamie Young helped keep Brisbane in with a chance of taking something out of the game, but they slumped to a third consecutive loss.
The Roar had a couple of clear chances to equalise late in the match as they put up a fight.
Hoffman's goal came after a pinpoint long ball from Georgievski and a brilliant tap on from Andrew Nabbout at the top of the area. The fullback-turned-striker then beat a defender before firing past Young.
The Roar keeper won man of the match honours, denying Dimitri Petratos from an attacking free-kick and a first time strike from Georgievski with a spectacular effort.
Merrick sent on new signing Pato Rodriguez at the break and again he made a good impact in his second appearance, putting in some jinking runs down the left touchline.
Nabbout had a chance that went just across the face of goal but at the other end Jets keeper Glen Moss pulled off another miraculous save to record his third consecutive clean sheet at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Merrick, whose side continue to be the main challengers at the top to Sydney FC, said: "It was good that we created so many chances but we just didn't finish them off.
"Jason is a great athlete, he is great at running forward and he knows how to get in the box because he was an attacker as a youngster. He did a good job and scored a terrific goal, he was unlucky not to get two."
Meanwhile, defending champions Sydney FC are 3/4 to win their next game against Adelaide United, who are 15/4 with the draw 11/4.
