Robson targets Durrant meeting
Former World Darts Trophy champion Gary Robson begins his campaign to win his first world title when he takes on debutant Pengiran Mohamed
Robson, who is a three-time quarter-finalist at Lakeside, is 1/4 to defeat the man from Brunei.
The Englishman made his debut in the BDO World Championship in 2001 and since then has made 15 appearances at the tournament.
In 2017 he failed to qualify, but he has been able to return to the competition after scooping enough ranking points to make the preliminary round.
Elsewhere on the opening day of the event, last year's runner-up Danny Noppert is in action against Joe Chaney, who has travelled from the USA to take part.
Noppie was a debutant last year and enjoyed wins over former world champion Scott Waites and Daryl Fitton before losing to the number one seed Glen Durrant in the final.
Since that defeat to Duzza, Noppert has won his first major trophy with the BDO as he was successful in the Finder Masters last month.
The Dutchman defeated Jim Williams 5-3 in the final of the televised tournament to prove he comes into this year's world championship in good form.
The Dutchman is 1/6 to beat Chaney in his opening assignment and 1212/1 to go one better in 2018 and be crowned world champion.
2015 world champion Scott Mitchell ends the schedule at Lakeside when he takes on Darius Labanauskas.
The number four seed has made it through to the second round or better every year since 2012 and is 2/5 to keep that run going with a victory over the Lithuanian.
Scotty Dog reached the semi-final of the Finder Masters last month to end what was a consistent year for the former world number one.
