Reigning champion Michael van Gerwen expects to have to up his game when he takes on Raymond van Barneveld in the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship.

Van Gerwen set up the showdown with his fellow Dutchman with a patchy 4-2 win over Gerwyn Price, who missed darts to take a 3-2 lead before Mighty Mike got himself over the line.

I have to play better against Raymond.

However, he was far from satisfied with his performance and accepts that an even greater test awaits in the form of five-time world champion Van Barneveld.

He told the official PDC website: "I didn't play well, simple. My game wasn't 100 per cent and I made it tough for myself, but all credit to him - he kept fighting and never gives up.

"I have to play better against Raymond. This was probably 85 per cent of how I can play, I'm sure I can play better against Raymond."

Van Gerwen is priced at 1/6 to defeat Barney and is 8/15 to claim a third PDC World Championship crown, with Gary Anderson priced at 1212/1.

Meanwhile, Van Barneveld felt that he had something left in the tank after a 4-1 win over another Dutchman, Vincent van der Voort.

He added: "I didn't play my A-game and still averaged 101, so I'm pleased with that. A couple of times I gave away a few shots on doubles and he was there to punish me, so I'm happy with the win of course.

"I was hitting tons, but not too many 140s or 180s, so I'm pleased with averaging 101. That's three matches and three 100 averages - I'm happy with that."
