Mighty Mike eyes perfect season

PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen says it would be 'nearly impossible' to win every match throughout a complete season of the Premier League.

Mighty Mike made it three wins out of three in the Premier League so far this season as he swept aside Rob Cross 7-2 in Dublin, with the Dutchman two points clear at the top of the fledgling table.

It would be nice to win every game this season because no-one has ever done that before.

However, he felt he could have played better against the 2018 world champion, despite averaging in excess of 101.

Van Gerwen told the official PDC website: "I'm happy with the win, but I'm a bit annoyed with myself - I think I could've played better, as Rob could have.

"I can't really complain because I won the game, but you have to be critical of yourself and I shouldn't have missed all those doubles at the end.

"It would be nice to win every game this season because no-one has ever done that before, but I think that's nearly impossible.

"People think it's easy, but I have to work hard to produce performances like this."

The fourth stop for the Premier League is the Westpoint Arena in Exeter next Thursday, with Van Gerwen matched against James Wade as he aims to earn a fourth successive victory.

MVG is 8/15 to win a fourth consecutive Premier League title this season, having reached the final of the tournament in each of the last six seasons.

Daryl Gurney can be backed at 11/1, with Gerwyn Price 999/1.
