Northern Irishman Daryl Gurney is determined to try and get his first Premier League victory on the board sooner rather than later.

Gurney, making his first appearance in the tournament, has started the season with two draws and a loss in his first three matches - having shared the spoils with Gerwyn Price and Raymond van Barneveld and lost 7-4 to Michael Smith.

I've got to cut out the mediocre stuff, play proper darts - the way I have been practicing.

Next on the agenda is a showdown with world number one Michael van Gerwen on Thursday evening in Berlin, with Gurney eager to take his practice form out on to the stage.

He told the official PDC website: "I still haven't played my best yet. In my own opinion, I haven't been that good.

"I've got to cut out the mediocre stuff, play proper darts - the way I have been practicing.

"The way I've played in the last couple of weeks, I've been steady enough, playing okay, but I can play so much better.

"I'm putting in the practice and hitting more 100 averages than I ever have. I'm putting myself in a good position, but I need to keep my foot on the gas."

Gurney is available at 7/1 to defeat Van Gerwen, with a 7-5 victory priced at 14/1, while a 6-6 draw between the two men is a 13/2 shot.

Meanwhile, the match-up of the evening in Berlin is the opening game of the order, with Smith facing Simon Whitlock, with both players having won three out of three so far to top the fledgling Premier League table.
