Durrant makes impressive start

Defending champion Glen Durrant is through to the second round of the 2018 BDO World Darts Championship following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Gary Robson.

The number one seed averaged 95.29 in the straight sets win.

It was Duzza's first performance on the oche at Lakeside since he defeated Danny Noppert 7-3 in the 2017 final. Durrant's scoring was too heavy for the preliminary round winner which allowed him to set up a clash with either Daryl Fitton or Justin Thompson in the last 16.

The man from Middlesbrough is 1/7 in the outright market to lift the trophy again and he is looking to become the first back-to-back winner of this tournament since Martin Adams in 2011.

There was also success on day two of the 2018 competition for two-time winner Scott Waites who got through a tough first-round tie against Scotland's Ross Montgomery. Scotty 2 Hotty checked out 133 in just the second leg of the match as he got off to a flying start before racing into a 2-0 lead.

Montgomery hit back to take the third set and looked to be rallying in the fourth set of the contest when he had the throw in the fifth leg. The Scotland captain could not take advantage though as Waites took out 92 for the match.

If successful this year, Waites will become only the fifth player in history to win the BDO World Darts Championship three times. The Yorkshireman is 1212/1 to lift the trophy on 14th January. His next assignment will be against either Dean Reynolds or Chris Harris in the second round.

In Monday's action at Lakeside, Fitton is appearing in his 16th world championship. The Dazzler has been to three semi-finals in a career which spans back to 2003. He is 2/9 to win his first-round tie this year against Thompson.
