Three-time BDO world champion Glen Durrant was ecstatic to have made an immediate impact by claiming the title at Players Championship 4 in Wigan.

Durrant came within a leg of securing his first PDC title a week ago when he lost out at Players Championship 2 to Dave Chisnall, but he made no mistake on Sunday, defeating Dimitri Van den Bergh 8-3 to take the honours.

He told the official PDC website: "That is as good as it gets, it's a wonderful feeling.

"To showcase my talents - I have just had the best two weeks. I am now a PDC champion and I am ecstatic."

Durrant had made his Premier League debut on Thursday evening and, while being disappointed to lose out to Daryl Gurney, he already has his sights set on making a breakthrough.

He told Darts Live: "It's a little bit tough to take because the icing on the cake would have been the win. I'm super disappointed, but I'm sure I'll take some sort of positives.

"The beauty of the PDC is that I now set off to a Pro Tour weekend and hopefully I can go there and do myself justice."

Durrant is priced at 33/1 to win the 2020 PDC World Championship, with reigning champion Michael van Gerwen available at 11/10 and 2019 runner-up Michael Smith 14/1.
