South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will miss the whole of the upcoming IPL season as he faces several months out of action due to a back problem.
The 22-year-old paceman reported feeling pain during the recent fourth Test against Australia at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, with subsequent tests detecting an issue which Rabada needs to rest.
That means he will be unable to feature for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, with the Proteas management hoping to have their key pace ace back in the fold for the tour of Sri Lanka, which gets under way in July.
South Africa team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, confirmed: "Kagiso has been diagnosed with a lower back stress reaction which will rule him out of cricket action for up to three months.
"He will need a month's break from all physical activity before commencing with a rehabilitation programme to get him ready for the series against Sri Lanka in July."
Rabada has taken 143 wickets in 30 Test matches to date and currently tops the ICC world rankings for Test bowlers.
In the recent four-match series against the Baggy Greens he claimed 23 wickets at an average of 19.26 as the hosts fought back from a first-Test loss to secure a 3-1 series triumph.
His 11 wickets in the second Test in Port Elizabeth was the fourth time in his Test career that he has taken ten wickets in a match, just one short of the Proteas record of Dale Steyn.
