Harris targets Root as main danger

Ryan Harris says that Joe Root is England's best player and his wicket will be the one most prized by Australia's bowlers.

Harris, who was a part of the home side's attack when they whitewashed England 5-0 the last time the teams met in Australia, is now his country's high performance bowling coach.

We've been known to target the captain when we play against them, he's genuinely their best player.

He also coached the Cricket Australia XI who were comprehensively beaten by England in the recent warm-up.

His side lost by 192 runs but Harris was able to get a good look at the England batting and he feels they are vulnerable, as long as the Australian bowling attack is on form.

He told Sky Sports: "I think it is (vulnerable), especially with no Ben Stokes. It depends how the boys bowl, if they bowl loose and wide the batsman won't have any troubles.

"We've got some good intelligence and knowledge on what we want to do, which I'll pass on to our bowlers. That's why we play these games. It's all good going into a big series."

Harris saw Joe Root make a valuable half century in his side's first innings at the Adelaide Oval and he is in no doubt that England’s captain is vital to his team's chances of avenging that 5-0 defeat in 2013-14.

"Root is world class, we've been known to target the captain when we play against them, he's genuinely their best player," he added.

"If you take out the two or three best players out of an opposition side, it'll hopefully be hard, and that's what I'm sure the Australians will be trying to do."

England face a Cricket Australia XI in Townsville, Queensland for their final warm-up ahead of the first Test which takes place in Brisbane, starting on 23rd November.

England are 11/4 to win the first Test with Australia 8/11 and a drawn Test priced at 15/4.

Root meanwhile is 13/8 to be England's best batsman of the series.
