Multiply Titans coach Mark Boucher says Aiden Markram deserves to have been plucked from domestic cricket for a one-day international recall.
The 24-year-old was added to South Africa's squad for the remainder of the 50-over series versus Sri Lanka. It means the former Durham batsman misses the Titans' crucial Momentum One-Day Cup game against the Cape Cobras in Centurion on Wednesday. The Titans are 8/15 to win the match while a Cape Cobras victory is available at 6/4.
Markram, who has only one 50 in 16 previous ODIs, was not to be denied after crashing two brilliant hundreds and an outrageous 43-ball 85 in the win over the Warriors that catapulted his side to the top of the table.
"I expected to lose him to be honest," Boucher said. "Having watched him over the last few games, he's been great. I think he's just proved to everyone that he's one step ahead of the rest. He's in his rightful place now and we'll have to fill the gap.
"Losing players to South Africa is what pleases us, so good luck to him."
