Vilas hails in-form Levi
New Lancashire signing Dane Vilas has praised county rival Richard Levi's superlative one-day form.
Vilas is a Cape Cobras team-mate of Northamptonshire's Levi until he hooks up with Lancashire later this month.
The pair are part of a Cobras team rooted to the bottom of the table in South Africa's Momentum Cup. But it is not for the want of Levi trying - he has cracked 412 runs at an average of 51.5.
His latest innings - a quickfire 106 off 70 balls - came in defeat to the Warriors at Newlands.
"His consistency is amazing, as he has contributed a century and four 50s," said Vilas. "He possesses so much power. He deserves his form, because he has worked meticulously in the nets at extending his arc.
"I don't think there are many better opening batsmen in the country than Richard. If you bowl straight at him, he can dispatch you with ease, but he also possesses that deft little touch to the third man boundary.
"He can hit it past square and grafts so hard in the nets to hit the ball straight. I throw extra balls at him at every net practice."
Levi has twice won the NatWest Blast with the Northants Steelbacks and is sure to be among the most prolific run-scorers in this summer's Royal London Cup.
Lancashire are 10/1 to win the County Championship Division 1 title outright this year, while Middlesex can be backed at 1212/1, Somerset at 1212/1 and Yorkshire at 1212/1.
