Vasconcelos joins Northants
Northamptonshire have signed South African wicketkeeper-batsman Ricardo Vasconcelos as a non-overseas player.
The 20-year-old, who can play as a local as he is an EU passport holder, has not always been handed the gloves by his provincial side Boland.
However, the left-hander has been prolific with the bat, notching two hundreds and three half-centuries in only 10 first-class matches.
Vasconcelos joins the rest of the Northamptonshire side in time for the start of the Steelbacks' Royal London Cup campaign, which begins on 17th May at home to Leicestershire. He will also be hoping to be included in the Vitality T20 opener against the same opponents on 4th July.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Northants, it is a massive opportunity that I hope to grab with both hands," said Vasconcelos, who joins compatriots Rory Kleinveldt and Richard Levi at Wantage Road.
"I am looking forward to work with and learn from some of the more experienced players so that I can accelerate my growth as a player as quickly as possible. I am also eager to try and contribute as much as I can to the team’s success."
Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley added: "He's a young, hungry cricketer who's able to provide wicketkeeper cover and push the guys for batting spots. It's great to have him on board."
Meanwhile, England are 4/5 to win the fourth ODI against New Zealand on Tuesday and 1/6 to triumph in the series.
