Essex head coach Anthony McGrath expects new signing Cameron Delport to be a massive help to his side in the T20 Blast over the next two summers.
The 29-year-old South African left-hander has agreed to feature for Essex in both 2019 and 2020, having enjoyed a successful career around the globe in the shortest form of the game.
He has previously played in English domestic cricket with Leicestershire and McGrath is confident that Delport will be able to replicate the success he had the Foxes in 2016, when he scored 694 runs in the T20 Blast.
He told the county's official website: "We identified early on that we needed to add another batsman to the squad for the T20 Blast and, with all of his experience, Cameron fits the bill perfectly.
"He's excelled in global competitions and it's a good match for both the club and the player. We're excited about the firepower he can add to the side."
Essex finished in seventh place in the South Division of the T20 Blast last summer, with the Chelmsford club having yet to taste victory in the competition.
