Derbyshire's cricket advisor Kim Barnett believes the signing of Scotland international Safyaan Sharif will prove to be worthwhile.
The 26-year-old fast bowler, who has featured in 59 internationals for Scotland, will be available for the Royal London One-Day Cup and Vitality Blast competitions.
He has played in 35 one-day internationals since making his debut in 2011 and has best bowling figures of 5-33.
Sharif has also featured in 41 Twenty20 matches, and Barnett said of Derbyshire's latest acquisition: "With a busy few months of white ball cricket coming up, we wanted to strengthen and provide more depth to our fast bowling department.
"We've been monitoring Sharif for a while. He is a talented quick bowler and he showed this winter with Scotland that he has the ability to take wickets and perform to a high standard.
"Working in partnership with Cricket Scotland, Sharif will join us for our white ball competitions providing additional strength to our attack, while also giving him exposure to county cricket."
Derbyshire are 1212/1 to win the Royal London One-Day Cup this year and 1212/1 to triumph in the Vitality Blast.
